In short
- Individual challenges keep each person's progress personal.
- Team challenges share group results, which suits a shared goal.
- Nutrola sends weekly totals by email for teams of 5 or more.
- The organizer sees group totals only, never anyone's meals, photos, weight or details.
Individual challenges focus on each person. Team challenges focus on a group. Both formats can work, and neither is the right answer for every workplace. The choice depends on privacy, fairness and how your staff like to take part. This guide compares the two formats and shows how to set up a mixed approach.
How do individual and team formats differ?
| Individual challenge | Team challenge | |
|---|---|---|
| Focus | One person’s routine | A shared goal for a group |
| Privacy | Each person tracks their own progress | Group totals show the result, not individual details |
| Fairness | Everyone works from their own starting point | Teams should be similar in size to compare fairly |
| Who it suits | People who prefer to work alone | People who like a shared goal |
| Reporting | Depends on the tool and the setup | Weekly totals for teams of 5 or more, with Nutrola |
Individual formats are simple to start. Team formats need enough people to form teams of 5 or more if you want team totals. The minimum for Nutrola’s challenge is 10 participants in total.
Why does privacy matter in either format?
Privacy is the first question to settle. Staff should know what the organizer can see before they join. Nutrola’s organizer sees group totals only: the number of people on the list, activated, active and the average days with a logged meal. Meals, photos, weight and details are never shared with the organization, and anyone can delete their account and data at any time.
How do team totals work?
Nutrola sends weekly totals by email for the group, or for teams of 5 or more. That rule shapes the team design. A team of five or more gets its own weekly total, while a smaller group shares the group total instead. Plan team sizes with that in mind, so each team sees its own result.
How do you set up a mixed challenge?
- Start with the whole group for the first week, so everyone learns the routine.
- Form teams of 5 or more if you want team totals.
- Keep teams roughly the same size, so the totals are easier to compare.
- Let staff choose their team where possible, so people join with colleagues they know.
- Put the setup in writing, including what the organizer sees and when totals arrive.
How do you keep fairness in view?
Fairness comes from clear rules, not from perfect teams. Publish the rules before the challenge starts, and use the same rules for every team. Start every team on the same day, so the weekly totals cover the same weeks. Avoid prizes or messages that single out one person, and keep the focus on group totals and routines.
Should the challenge have a leaderboard?
Nutrola’s challenge has no in-app leaderboard. That keeps the focus on the group rather than on rankings. If you run your own internal updates, keep them to group totals too, and avoid naming individuals with low activity.
